6 Super Foods To Add To Your Diet

Super-foods is a term often read in newspapers and on blogs online. But what does the term actually mean and which so called super-foods should be included in your diet? The term super-food does not have an official definition, but it is often used to describe certain foods that in combination with a healthy diet and lifestyle could reduce the risk of diseases such as cancer, heart attacks and strokes.

1. Chia Seed

The first super-food I am going to mention is the Chia seed. It is a great seed that on the one hand is good for your brain due to the high content of omega fatty acids and on the other hand helps fighting high cholesterol. It is ideal for smoothies with its mildly sweet flavor.

2. Coconut Oil

Coconut oil is a great-super food for losing weight. The fatty acids present in this super-food convert the body fat into energy that boosts your metabolism, whereas saturated fats would add to body fat. If you add a tablespoon or two to your morning smoothie, you should feel and look slimmer in no time.

3. Flax Seeds

Next I would recommend flax seeds. They are best known for their fiber and omega fatty acids. This seed also plays a role in proper cardiovascular and immune system health, soft skin, joint function and brain function to name a few. Flax seeds are very effective at removing toxins from your body. Their nutty flavor makes them easy to add to many dishes such as salads or smoothies.

4. Maca Powder

Maca powder is a wondrous super-food that gives you energy and stamina. The powder is made out of a plant root filled with minerals, vitamins, plant sterols, potassium and much more. This super-food is probably the most powerful and tastes great with some cinnamon and almond milk.

5. Hemp Protein

Hemp protein has an astonishing protein content of 50 percent and higher fiber levels than soy-based protein powder. Athletes even use this protein powder to repair their muscles. This powder can be added to smoothies and salads, giving your food a nutty taste that is rich in protein.

6. Acai Berry

The last super food I am going to mention is the Acai berry. This Brazilian berry is filled with antioxidants that boosts your energy levels and your ability to focus. They also fill you up due to their fiber and protein content. This makes them ideal for losing weight. There are many ways to consume this berry due to its creamy consistency and chocolaty flavor.
